Happy Holidays
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been shopping and doing other Christmasy things.
It’s also been really cold, we’ve had a crazy blizzard that gave use almost two feet of snow!! (which is an awful a lot where I’m from haha) Check out my friend’s table on her deck!! =D
Looks like a rum cake to me! xD
So I haven’t been wanting to go down to the basement (where my computer is) and paint…just too cold for me haha. But Christmas is pretty much here so shopping and whats not is done so I’m more free…wee! =)
Hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday =)

Dreamy
A short while ago I post a list of projects I was working on. Well I can cross another one off my list! And which one is it you ask? Well

This is the couple I drew for the Wacom Dream Contest on DeviantART. I wrote a short story a few months ago that gave me the idea for this drawing. The drawing is of the two main characters. It’s a teen romance story and if you’d like to take a look at it, I’ll add the link to it on my DA page at the end of this post. =)
Also I’ve made a speed painting video. B)
So now the I have two projects over with, my list now looks like this:
- Green Lantern (still haven’t finsihed, I started it in the summer xD)
- A Character of Mine
- Someone From Youtube
I’ll try to get these done but I’m probably going to do some random art pieces in between so prepare yourself. lol

Hooblah
Hey all, I’ve been practicing digital painting recently and I was just watching a video tutorial on youtube on how to paint hair realistically. It was fairly simple to do – and since I just wanted to do the hair I made a blob of skin tone -ness. But after I painted the hair, I felt I could do more with the entire painting, so I ended up painting a face less head/neck combo.
Wait, wait there’s more!
After I had the faceless thing, I decided to add more detail and a background – hehe I was having mindless fun (the best kind by the way) . And then, well, I don’t know about any of you, but I find messing with the filters and blending options in photoshop to be loads of fun! So I did that to!
So about a half hour past and….viola! This is what I ended with!!
This is called “Violet” (Ooohhh how creative!! haha )
So this was originally just a random piece of scrap art but I liked it and kept working with it. So my advice is to keep your doodles and practice sheets, even pieces of art you think may be a fail. You never know…that pile of scrap you have in the corner of your room may not not actually be a bunch of hooblah.

Get Started
Hey there, hope you all have a wonderful holiday. I just wanted to start this post off by saying how I got into art.
I’ve taken art classes all through out school but I’d have to say I’m mostly self taught. How I got into art is actually pretty silly: I wanted to be better then my sister. One day, my sister was drawing Pokemon from the cards and showed them to my mum. My mum would rave over them and told my sister how good her drawings were. I grew jealous and determined to be better which didn’t take long. My sister didn’t have much interest in art so it wasn’t very hard to be better (though I still did a little victory dance when I got praised for my drawings haha!)
I say I’m most self taught because nothing my art teachers taught me in class seemed relevant to me. I remember my teacher in elementary school taught us how to draw a person by drawing them in simple shapes like circles and triangles, ect. It was so bogus to me; no one in real life looked like that. But I understand why she would teach kids how to draw that way, I just didn’t want to learn how to draw like that. And can you believe that was the only time any teacher of mine actually taught how to draw? I find that a little crazy.
Anyway, artists learn to draw through observation; that’s how I learned. I’ve said in a previous post that looking at a picture or a real life scene would make your art better, that’s because if you observe something enough, you’ll know how to make that into a drawing or a piece of art work.
However, where observing will help loads with your art, sometimes it’s best to have someone tell you. Like watching videos, taking a class or reading a tutorial (or watching a tutorial, doesn’t matter haha). Tutorials are loads of help! I read them all the time. Following a tutorials then drifting away to do your own thing helps with art work a lot. They’re like guide lines; if you ever read and watched a tutorial, chances are the artist said that there is no right way to do art and that their tutorial is only one way and/or a guide. This is sooo true.
“If you’re art doesn’t come out right, tell people it’s abstract” ~ My mum xD
Anyway, anyway I’ve been working on my little art projects that I’ve mentioned before but I kept getting distracted (gr youtube). I’ve been reading/watching a lot of tutorials and painting videos too; I’ve learned quite a bit.
So, I went from this…lovely…eye (my frist digitally drawn eye EVER!)
To this! =D
Of course, two completely different programs but my technology upgraded along with my skillz B) haha
Speaking of tutorials, I’m hopeing to get some up and running some time so keep a look out for those. (I still have my art projects to get done – I’m getting attacked by idea bunnies! lol)
So until my next post, I’d love to know which drawings you like best. =)

Learn From It
I love painting and doing art, it’s the whole reason I started this blog. But, like everything in life, art is a journey; I’m still trying to learn how to get the best outcome of the materials I use. My overall goal for my art is go achieve a realistic painting.
I think I’m on my way to getting to where I want to be but I’ll take a lot of time and practice. A tip I have for those who would like to get where they’re going (may it be realistic or comic book style of art or whatever) is this: look at art!
My Basic Drawing teacher told my class that spending time – hours even – just simply looking at art helps you with your own; especially looking at your own work. I’ve always felt like I would seem conceited if I looked at my own work but my teacher is right. If you look at your own work then you can see how you can improve and there’s always room for improvement, right?

Raptor Man
So I have a friend that I rpg with frequently on his friend’s rpg site. (Role Play Game) He came up with another story, something with a comic book feel (he asked me for help to develop the story because I read comics lol) and he asked if I would draw the main character for him, “Raptor Man”.
He said his character was based off of Batman, so I used Batman as a reference photo. My friend said it looked just as he imagined it so I hope you all like it too. =)

New Video!
Finally I finished another video! I’m painting about 5 pictures at once and recording them so it takes me a while to finish haha This one is one of my own Characters, Mort. This my gazillionth attempt at realism. lol I read a lot of tutorials to get the eyes and nose just right. For the entire picture I used a photo of David Beckham I found on Google. Reference pictures and tutorials are good my friends =) Anyway I hope you enjoy, let me know what you think.

Bizee Bee
See how I put a twist on “busy”? Haha
Anyway, I just wanted to say how I have a few art projects going on right now (all of which will probably end up being a video) so hopefully they won’t take me forever to do.
My projects are:
- A picture of Green Lantern -my brother asked me to draw this for him over the summer and I’m still not done…my bad..
- A couple holding each other – for a contest on Deviantart
Wish me luck!! - Two Characters of mine – Uh no need to explain this really, it’s just two characters of mine haha
- A Youtube personality – Haha in other words I’m going to paint someone I like to watch on Youtube (is that so weird? =P)
Ok so I’m working on those right now and I’ll set up a gallery once I figure out the best way to haha.
Have a great day =)

First Post
So after all this time of thinking about getting a blog, here it is!! So let me tell you a little bit about what will be included in my blog.
First off, I’m Lauri (or Lauren). I’m a digital artist, I use a tablet to paint on the computer and I also like to do photo manipulations. I sometimes draw on paper and use oil pastels, but digital art is more of my forte. The reason why I started a blog is because I want to share my art with the world and hopefully help aspiring artists develop their skill as I do the same. Kind of like share the process of my art, the trail and errors so hopefully you would gain something from it.
I would love feedback – comments on my blogs, arts, videos, emails – Something to tell me I’m helping you. Suggestions on what my next art project should be or videos to make would be more then welcome.
So that was a little bit about what to expect from my blog and I hope you have an awesome day =)
