Great Hilarity

By lauren  //  Personal, Rant, YouTube Videos  //  No Comments

Heey all! So I go to Youtube everyday and when I’m on the computer I keep a tab of it up on my internet browser…I don’t know why…I just do…

Anyway, I watch this one person all the time, I keep track of when she says she’ll upload new videos and I watch them all the time. What the reason for this semi-stalkerish routine? She’s hilarious!!! I love watching her videos and she’ pretty famous on the Tube.

But who is she?

Her name is Natalie Tran, a.k.a Community Channel. She does vlogs on everyday observations and awkward moments. I don’t know about anyone else but I always laugh at awkward moments, even when they’re happening to me. I would sometimes stand in awkward silence with people I hardly know, look around aimlessly and just start to giggle….which kinda makes the situation even more awkward because the people would look at me and be like “what the heck…?” but whatever haha.

So Natalie is usually the only person in her videos and she acts out different people to make a complete skit. It’s pretty interesting…she’s also pretty famous in Australia, where she’s from, she was featured on a morning show…wow go her! haha

Well I hope you check her out, I’d like to put one of her videos on here so you can get a taste of her channel and I figured, since this is primarily an art blog, I’ll post the one and only video she made that she drew…I think she drew…well it’s drawn. =) Enjoy!

p.s. her videos has some pretty bad language in them..but they’re still funny! lol

A Tutorial…really?

By lauren  //  Rant  //  No Comments

Hey everyone, today I don’t have a tutorial for you or a piece or art or a video. Instead I felt like ranting about something I find very annoying. When a title of a video on youtube says “tutorial” or “how to” and it doesn’t tell you how to do something.

So I go to youtube a lot and, like many others, I got to it not only for entertainment but for answers.Once I saw a video that had a title like “how to draw a car in photoshop.” I was like oh yeah! right on man, gonna check that out… and when I did it was just a freakin’ speed painting video of the guy drawing a car!

I like a good speed drawing video as much as the next artist but when a title says “how to” or “tutorial” it implies that you’re actually gonna inform the viewer on how to do something…can’t really do that when you speed up what you’re doing 900 %.

Another example is today, my friend and I were looking up how to cut choppy layers on youtube and one video had “tutorial” in the title…we watched it and it was this chick cutting her hair sped up. How are we suppose to figure out how  to do that?

I don’t really know how that works, putting those words in the title when you’re not really gonna teach. Just to get views I guess? I don’t know..just annoying to me.

So anyway, any one have any preference as to what kind of tutorials they like? Written tutorials vs. Video. What do you think is better? I personally like video because you can see what the person is doing at all times…I’ve read some tutorials that I feel they must have left out a step because I have no clue how to get from one to two or something. lol I don’t know, maybe I just can’t understand things haha. But what do YOU think?

Nico de Mattia

By lauren  //  Art  //  6 Comments

Hello all! Today I thought I’d talk about one of my favorites artis. He’s a digital painter and he makes peed painting vdioes on Youtube. If you haven’t figured it out yet, today I’m going to talk about: Nico de Matia!

Nico de Mattia is an amazing artist, he does a lot of caricatures but they also have a realistic style to them.  What I mean is that his charactures don’t look cartoony, instead they look like he took a photo of a person and just ditorted it haha. Here’s an example of his caricatures.

In case you didn’t recognize these two characters, the first one was Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Will Smith as…well…Will Smith haha. These photos are amazing! Even if you’re not into carictures (like me) you have to admit they’re very good pieces of art.

Well, if you’re mind isn’t blown yet….ha!It will be….

What I think Nico does best is his photo realism paintings….admire these photos!

You’re mind just blew up didn’t? That’s ok, mine was too the frist time I saw this guy’s work. He seriously paints these, such talent he has! He uses photoshop, camtasia (to record), Priemere CS (for video editing) and a pen tablet…I think he uses a Wacom Intuos but I’m not sure, don’t quote me on that! haha

If you for whatever reason don’t believe he painted these or just want to see the painting process (which is probably the most likely reason haha), you definately should check out his Youtbue channle which you can go to  here!

Also, make sure you check out his blog, he has a load more art work there that isn’t on his youtube channel.

Nico de Mattia’s blog

I hope you enjoy Nico’s work as much as I do. When I frist got into digital painting, and I was waiting for my tablet to arrive in the mail, I was sooo excited and I watched a bunch of Nico’s speed painting videos over and over again and thought I’d be just as good when I started! xD Which, of course, is not true haha. One day I hope to be just as good but I’m pretty proud of myself to getting to this skill level of only doing this for about a year. =) I’m sure if I keep working at it, I’ll be great too.

Oh, one more thing before I go. I have about 4 art projects going on right now…two of which are big projects as in they’ll take time and two smaller ones which shouldn’t take very long. I always start a bunch of projects that makes me take longer to finish xD

I”m sorry but ya know art takes time. Once in my art teacher back in high school told us that one student didn’t have their art project done in time and the escuse he/she gave was that you can’t rush art! Brilliant! It’s soo true….no matter how hard I try…. haha

Ok, I’ll let y’all go now. In between posting art pieces/videos/tutorials/other things about art, I’ll try to post about other things so that we have something to do/talk about while we wait for my slow butt! lol I’ll talk to you soon! byee!

I’m wishing on a star

By lauren  //  Art, Art Tips, Tutorial  //  No Comments

Heey everyone, I took a break from painting today and did something else. PHOTO MANIPULATION! wee! These are soo much fun to do but it’s kind of hard to get started…well for me anyway haha.

But, like always, Deviantart, Google and Youtube were all there to inspire! So I bring you today…. The 10th Kingdom!!!

For those of you who don’t know, The 10th Kingdom is a mini series about a woman and her father from New York, who stumble upon a magic mirror that leads them to the 9 kingdoms which are all fairy tale places. Snow White, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood…things like that. It’s an awesome movie…so set aside 10hrs and get watching! =D

This photo manipulation was pretty simple. I just took a photo of central park from Google and adding a bunch of stuff….I watched the opening of The 10th Kingdom a few times to get inspiration. lol

Doing photo manipulations and graphics in GIMP or Photoshop – or whatever you use – is, what I think, a great way to get to know the program. When I used Paint.net, GIMP and Photoshop…they’re all similar but at the same time very different. GIMP is more advanced then Paint.net and Photoshop just beats the other two with a stick. lol Finding a picture and doing a bunch of random effects to them (paying attention to what your using of course…if not, then this whole excerise is pointless lol) shows you what tool/filter/whatever does what.

So give this a try; I’d like to see whatever art you come up with. =)

Oh btw I found some awesome sites for photo manipulation tutorials, I did a few and just read other. Enjoy!!

Off Day

By lauren  //  Art  //  No Comments

So far today isn’t such a great day for art. I tried a few different things that all sort of just sucked.

I have quite a few art projects in progress; I just don’t know how to finish one before starting another hah. So as I started on one I think would be pretty cool but I only made him look dead with the color of his skin tone. I some how used grayish browns…he looked so gross! haha

Well I gave up that and started to work on a eye painting tutorial. I started pretty ok but then I realized my proportions were off and I didn’t have the right colors. I had to go in to fix them but I was just like “ah screw it.”

Now I’m attempting vectoring but right now I’m not sure that’s such a wise idea haha.

Oh the other day I tried to make a vlog video but it was horrible. xD Mostly because of lighting in my basement but also because of my bad acting haha. So I’ll try to make one again whenever I figure out a better way to go about it. Any ideas, suggestions, tips or whatever about videos and how to make them are more then welcome! =D
