Animated Show!

By lauren  //  Animation, Art  //  5 Comments

Hey everyone! I just wanted to bring up how I”ve been working on animation and lip syncing a lot lately and I decided to make an animated show on Youtube! It’s going to be about this character I came up with for this rpg name Dess. It’s basically going to be be her vlogging about her life and so far a friend of mine and I came up with some pretty fun stuff for her to talk about and I’m going to animate the stories she’s going to tell so that you can actually see what she’s talking about! Sort of like how some vloggers have skits in their videos to demonstrate what they’re talking about.

So what’s a vlog you may ask? Well you know how a blog is Web + Log = Blog? Well, Video + Log = Vlog! So it’s like a video blog where, instead of writing about stuff – for example your daily life – you talk to a camera or webcam and talk about your daily life. There are some aweseom vloggers on youtube! I love vlogs! I would vlog about my life but I don’t think my life is interesting enough haha my character’s life will be more interesting and plus I think it would be fun to animate it! =)

Here are some vloggers I like:

Communitychannel

Peron75

Thekandeejohnsonshow

These guys are awesome! I watch them whenever they upload! ^.^ I’m almost done with the first episode of my own show, which would just be sort of an intro to my character and also sort of a test to see how my animation and lip syncing skills are! haha So sub to my channel, Lauri The Artist, and be updated when I upload! =D Or you can just check back here to see how my progress is going! hehe

    Mystical Smoke Effect

By lauren  //  Art, Art Tips, Photoshop  //  No Comments

I’m so excited! Today I got a request from someone asking if I could turn their image into a cartoon and add in a space background and some sort of cool light, smoke effect that makes it look like it’s coming from the guy’s hand. Here’s the final image:

The person who ordered this image wanted a colorful effect and absolutely loved this image! They said I was the best cartoonist on the Fiverr website they have seen! =) That really brought up my spirits and confidence in my work! But what else made me feel happy is that I finally pulled off a wonderful smoke effect without looking at a tutorial! I’ve see tutorial using the “Distort – Wave” filter but the settings they have don’t always work out the way I want.

For this effect, I had my settings on the following:

    Number of Generators: 10

Wavelength: 71 Min and 216 Max

Amplitude: 5 Min and 178 Max

Scale: 55% Horz. and 86% Vert.

    Type: Sine

    Undefined Areas: Repeat Edge Pixels

To make the smoke effect, I used the wave filter about 4 times and after each, I went to “Edit – Fade Wave” and put it on 50%. I recommend playing with the wave settings to get the best effect.

Other tutorials say the same thing, they list the setting they have and they tell you to use fade wave (or at least some do). What I find to be the most helpful is that when you start to make your smoke effect, you have to draw the basic outline. This means don’t just go in a draw a square then hope the wave effect will magically turn the square into smoke!

I’ve read a tutorial where someone used the Polygon Lasso Tool to draw your smoke outline, which does work. You just have to draw a few points then connect them. But I find the Pen Tool to be the best because of the ability to make curved lines. I think the wave tool works best with curved lines rather then completely straight edges.

For my smoke effect, I drew some spirals around the gentlemen’s hand in the image and then used the setting above in the wave filter then used the fade wave. I did the wave filter and fade method about four times to the same outline. Then I drew in a white line (pressure sensitivity on when I went to stroke the line) and added the bending option “outer glow” of white then played with the size and blending options.

Finally, I used a clipping mask and used the rainbow gradient tool to make the overall rainbow look. I’m very happy with how this turned out. What do you think? I love colorful images like this and was very happy when I got this request! lol

      Cartoons and Animation

By lauren  //  Animation, Art, paintings, Photoshop  //  No Comments

Lately I’ve been busy working on an animation for my dad for his business He wanted a cool opening to videos he’s going to do that listed all the services his business does. That was basically his only requirement and that it was between 15 and 18 seconds long. The rest was up to me!

The idea I got for his animation came from other openings he showed me. They seems grungy and urban artistic to me so that’s what I went with! Even if he didn’t like it, the practice in the art style I was making the graphics is was worth the effort alone – I was so proud of what I created! It was a bonus that my dad liked it! However, the song I chose for the opening, the one we agreed that I’d use, turned out to be too hard (it was a rock song). So he went with a softer song. I still like the rock song. Here are the animations below, comment and let me know what you think of the animation and which song you think fits better!

      Soft Music Intro

I’m telling you, if you have a business that needs marketing – my dad is the man to go to! He really knows his internet marketing stuff! You can go to his website if you want his help.

Now to talk about cartoons. Recently I went on this site called Fiverr where you can list a service you offer. It can literally be ANYTHING! There are some pretty weird offers on there haha. It’s a great start for freelancing. No matter what service you provide, you’ll always get paid $5. I posted a few jobs but the only one I’m getting hits on is “I will turn your portrait into a cartoon for $5″ and people really seem to enjoy my work! I already made $40!

Here are some examples I’ve done so far:

I’m very proud of the work I’ve done and I hope everyone is happy with the images! If you’re interested in an image, come visit me on Fiverr!
