The New Captain America

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I posted anything on here – oh no! But that’s changing today!

I’ve been MIA everywhere – here, facebook, youtube, deviant art….I just haven’t been on my computer much and I”m not quiet sure why. Probably because the holiday season just kept me somewhat busy with the shopping, the decorating and the family. Phew…tiring! Plus I’ve been surfing the web on my ipod so really there wasn’t much use for my computer since I mostly just use my computer for blog posts and art stuff and I just haven’t been in the mood to do anything. =/

So here’s my first work of the new year!

The New Captain America

I just uploaded the time lapse video for it on Youtube and I got a few comments from friends and I more views from people who didn’t leave comments but whenever I upload a video, I just get on this Youtube high! I watch videos that inspire me to try new things with my videos and I just get so hyper and happy!

I want to make a new video right now! A none art video – maybe another one with me in it like a skit but I don’t know what! I’ll have to think of some ideas but I’m sooo hyped right now! I watched Micheal Buckley – he’s a introbang! xD And I watched Micheal and Goeff from Roosterteeth do some stuff in Saints Row The 3rd – love that pairing! Two of the funniest guys ever!!!

I got some projects I still need to finish and a friend of mine and I are about to start a new one! haha You can’t help when ideas just come to you! But I need to work on finishing project before starting new ones! lol

Let me talk a little bit about this painting though.

I did this in acrylic paint on drawing paper, it’s 18 inches by 24 inches in real life but this one I uploaded is more like 6 by 8 or something so it can fit on the site.

I don’t know how other people paint, and I’m not sure if you can really tell what I do in the video, but I blended the paint with my fingers as if it were oil pastel or graphite or hell, makeup lol! Acrylic paint dries really fast, so once I put the color down – I just dabbed it on – and then I smudged it with my finger. It looks a bit rough when it dries but overall, I’d say it looks pretty well blended. I never did that before, it was just a spur of the moment kind of thing. I hardly ever paint. I can literally remember and can name all the traditional paintings I’ve done because there were so few. I did this one, last year I did a painting of Spawn for my brother (which I forgot to take a picture of. Next time I”m at his house, I’ll get a pic of it and upload it.) And one of a character of mine named Jared I did for my Studio Art class in high school. Jared

I’ve only ever painted in acrylics – I don’t really know why lol What your favorite kind of paint to work with? I really don’t know paint that well so what’s the best and worst in your opinion? Do you know any good blending techniques?

Now don’t let me hog the lime light – how are all of you? How was everyone’s holiday? What have you been working on? =) I hope everyone had a happy holiday and is having a happy new year! ^.^

Here’s the time lapse video! =)

Cartoons and Animation

By lauren  //  Animation, Art, paintings, Photoshop  //  No Comments

Lately I’ve been busy working on an animation for my dad for his business He wanted a cool opening to videos he’s going to do that listed all the services his business does. That was basically his only requirement and that it was between 15 and 18 seconds long. The rest was up to me!

The idea I got for his animation came from other openings he showed me. They seems grungy and urban artistic to me so that’s what I went with! Even if he didn’t like it, the practice in the art style I was making the graphics is was worth the effort alone – I was so proud of what I created! It was a bonus that my dad liked it! However, the song I chose for the opening, the one we agreed that I’d use, turned out to be too hard (it was a rock song). So he went with a softer song. I still like the rock song. Here are the animations below, comment and let me know what you think of the animation and which song you think fits better!

I’m telling you, if you have a business that needs marketing – my dad is the man to go to! He really knows his internet marketing stuff! You can go to his website if you want his help.

Now to talk about cartoons. Recently I went on this site called Fiverr where you can list a service you offer. It can literally be ANYTHING! There are some pretty weird offers on there haha. It’s a great start for freelancing. No matter what service you provide, you’ll always get paid $5. I posted a few jobs but the only one I’m getting hits on is “I will turn your portrait into a cartoon for $5″ and people really seem to enjoy my work! I already made $40!

Here are some examples I’ve done so far:

I’m very proud of the work I’ve done and I hope everyone is happy with the images! If you’re interested in an image, come visit me on Fiverr!

Lacey Mosley Missing

By lauren  //  Art, paintings, YouTube Videos  //  No Comments

“Somethings missing in me, I felt it deep within me. Past lovers left me to bleed alone.”

This is the chorus of Missing by Flyleaf, a song I’ve recently found and am now in love with! Flyleaf is so inspirational and moving; their songs are beautiful! And Lacey Mosley, the lead singer, is gorgeous! You could probably guess what I just had to do…and I did it!

Personally, I think hits picture could look a lot more like Lacey if I worked at it but I like it just the way it is now. It’s not exactly photo realistic, like what I’m always working towards, but it’s still pretty good haha.

The reason I chose this picture to draw is because of the lighting. It’s dark, which intrigued me but also the light across her face and chest thats just peeking through her hair. It’s lovely and I wanted to try drawing this interesting light.

I hope you like this drawing. And I was thinking of maybe choosing one of the videos I’ve already made or making another and doing a commentary of like how I draw it and my thought process when I draw and stuff…but what do you think? Well take your time, mull it over and mean while, enjoy the video!

Learn to Digitally Render Cars!

By lauren  //  Art, paintings  //  No Comments

So lately I’ve been reading and sampling this product to teach you how to Render Cars in Photoshop – or any program like it. It’s called “How To Render Cars In Photoshop: Fast and Easy”.

I don’t know about anyone else, but sometimes written tutorials confuse me – even with pictures they seem to jump from one step to an another…I’ve read some bad tutorials that couldn’t explain how to do anything right! I did, however, find some I did like and am quite fond of. But I’d have to say video tutorials are best because you can see what the person is doing. This program has 4.5 hours of video content to teach you how to render cars – hallelujah!

I love photo realism but it can be quite difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing. And with cars…I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING! Check out this photo:

Yeeah this could be way better! I’ve always had a problem with drawing cars and rendering them in photoshop wasn’t any easier for me. But with a good teacher and plenty of detailed instruction I think anyone can learn how to render cars in photoshop.

Laughing Beauty

By lauren  //  Art, paintings, YouTube Videos  //  No Comments

Hi everyone, I’ve got another painting for ya! Tada!

For those of you who don’t know, this is Laughing Beauty – a.k.a. Laughing Octopus -from Metal Gear Solid 4. I love video games and I think MSG4 is my favorite. The Metal Gear series is an acquired taste – my sister described it “it’s more like a movie with some interaction rather then a video game.” What does she mean by this? The cut scenes of this game are super long! It really is like a movie! But I find the story so interesting and the characters awesome! I just love this game!

And I think it’s safe to say that this game probably has the best graphics I’ve ever seen! This game is for ps3 yet I don’t think I’ve seen graphics like this! Expect maybe Assassin’s Creed. Plus Metal Gear Solid 4 has the best game play and the boss battles are tight! Thats why I wanted to draw Laughing Beauty.

Laughing Octopus is one of the four major boss battles: Laughing Octopus, Raging Raven, Crying Wolf and Screaming Mantis. And I will draw them all! Why? Because they’re awesome and I’ve figured out how to draw spandex so why not?!  haha It took me about 5 hours which I think is the standard for realistic digital paintings - even though my photo realism still needs work.  I think it took me longer to edit the video then to do the actual painting! xD

Well I won’t keep you any long with my ranting. Here’s the video!
